Specialising young

Talk for about a minute: should young athletes specialise in one sport from an early age, or should they try several?

Step 1 · Listen to a model answer

Personally, I think early specialisation is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, swimmers like me benefit from years of muscle memory — you can't fake the feel of the water. On the other hand, kids who only ever do one sport miss out on coordination, friendships, and the simple joy of trying something they're rubbish at. I'd argue the sensible path is to specialise gradually, perhaps around fourteen or fifteen, once you actually know which sport you love.
